Han's Cuisine
Hey friends! my name is Hannah and I am obsessed with all things food, especially sans gluten and dairy. I am currently based out of Calgary, Alberta, Canada, living with my partner, and my sassy kitty, Ellie.
During my free time, you can find me zooming down groomed slopes at a local ski resort, immersing myself in a captivating book, experimenting with new recipes in the kitchen, exploring new destinations, and pursuing the best moments that life has to offer.
While I have spent the past couple of years working for the government, I have recently been pursuing a career transition into content writing and marketing. Writing, creating content, and social media marketing have always been passions of mine, and I am eager to channel these skills into a new career. Despite the challenges that come with making a career change, this is partially what has motivated me to start this blog. I intend to leverage my content writing, social media, and marketing expertise to create an engaging and informative blog.
I have always LOVED food and trying new things from a very young age. Growing up, my dad was a phenomenal cook, and I always enjoyed watching him cook, and of course eating what he made. He would cook dishes like butter chicken, chicken Alfredo, and beef stroganoff, and they always left me in awe. Growing up, I never noticed the effect eating gluten and dairy had on me until my early twenties.
In the summer of 2019, I was living in Vancouver and was going through a lot of personal family experiences. I would constantly get panic attacks, severe anxiety, insomnia, and constant headaches. I went to go see a family doctor to try and resolve these symptoms, however – instead of trying to figure out where these issues were coming from, they advised me to take medication for anxiety and diagnosed me with Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD). Now, I am not saying that medication was the wrong thing to prescribe, but at this point, all these symptoms were so new to me, and I was anxious about adding any other new factors into the mix.
My anxiety symptoms were consistent that whole summer, and when I moved home in September, nothing changed. I was still getting all the same symptoms, if not getting worse symptoms due to the added stress of being a fourth-year university student. In 2020, at the start of the Pandemic, I moved to Kamloops with my partner. My partner hadn’t been eating gluten and dairy for a couple of years now, as he did allergy testing, and was advised to cut these out of his diet. Upon moving in with my partner, I chatted with a friend, who is also a functional doctor, about my anxiety symptoms. They immediately advised me to cut gluten out of my diet, so I did. I noticed a blatant difference in a matter of 2 weeks without gluten. I hadn’t been anxious in 2 weeks!!! I couldn’t believe it. However, I was still getting non-stop headaches. I was then advised to cut out dairy, which I did. I now only get headaches sporadically, which is much better than getting headaches every single day.
The decision to eliminate gluten and dairy has changed my life, and I am passionate about sharing my experiences and delicious recipes with others. I have created this blog to inspire those living a gluten and dairy-free lifestyle, provide tasty recipes, and create a supportive community for others to share their experiences.
Many of the recipes I share on this blog are from other talented food bloggers, and I always provide the original recipe link. I am grateful to these bloggers for inspiring me, and I couldn’t have created this blog without them.
Thank you for joining me on this food journey, and I hope you enjoy the recipes and content on this blog as much as I enjoy them!
